Head Start Program

Providing high quality, early childhood services for children and families, the Cheyenne and Arapaho Head Start Program strives to reflect our traditional culture in all service areas. Offering a nurturing environment focused on the individual, the goal of the Head Start Program encourages children and their families to develop strong relationships in their homes and communities.

The Head Start Program is designed to develop a child’s social, emotional and cognitive skills and encourage lifelong learning so that each individual will grow to become a partner in the educational process and a leader in the Cheyenne and Arapaho community. Supporting our families and community members, Head Start serves as an advocate for children while enhancing the parents’ role as their children’s primary educator.

Head Start Program Centers

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Head Start Program is a center-based program and operates centers in Canton, Concho, and Clinton. The program is offered five days a week, six hours per day at each center. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and transportation is provided for all enrolled children.

The Head Start Program is funded for 133 children. The Concho Center (57 children) and the Clinton Center (45 children) each offer three classrooms, while the Canton Center (31 children) operates two classrooms.

Applications

Applications for the Head Start Program are accepted throughout the year. Remember that, even if a Program Center is at capacity, slots do open during the year, so you are encouraged to fill out an application so your child can be placed on the waiting list. You can download a Head Start application form below.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Head Start Program is always in need of volunteers. Please call the Head Start office or the Center nearest you if you’re interested in volunteering.
